PEOPLE across Middlesbrough and Teesside are being urged to nominate their local heroes to take part in the Olympic torch relay.
The Olympic flame will travel throughout the UK in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games. The torch, which will ultimately light the London Olympic flame, arrives in the UK from Greece on May 18, 2012.
Eight thousand inspirational people are needed to play their part in the historic ceremony as the flame is carried by a series of torch bearers. Each torchbearer will carry the flame for around 300 metres. As they do so the eyes of the world will be on them and their personal story will be told as an inspiration to others.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) is taking nominations for torch bearers to be part of the relay and have the once in a lifetime experience.
Middlesbrough has been announced as one of 70 evening celebrations for the torch relay.
The flame will come to the town on June 17, 2012 when a spectacular evening of entertainment will be held. Local nominations are therefore being sought for this opportunity. Nominations should be for people who inspire and support others and give up time to support their community.
People can nominate themselves or someone in their community through the London 2012 website: www.london2012.com/OlympicTorchRelay Nominations have to be completed by June 29, 2011. Please note that when indicating the location on the site, nominations should be submitted under 'Tees Valley' as there is no Middlesbrough option.
