Make sure you and your neighbours are prepared for a cold snap

Some simple advice on how to keep warm.

• Close your curtains at dusk and tuck them behind the radiators to keep the heat in.
• Set your heating to come on before you get up and switch off before you go to bed, making sure your bedroom is at least 18C.
• Draught excluders are a great way of filling the gaps in your windows and doors to keep warmth inside.
• Keep radiators clear of objects to make sure you’re benefiting from all the heat they produce.
• You could be entitled to help with your energy bills or winter-proofing your home.
• Set your room temperature to 21C
• When watching the TV, snuggle up with slippers and a blanket.
• If you have to go outdoors, make sure you have a waterproof jacket, hat and gloves.
• When the weather looks set to be particularly bad, keep your cupboards stocked with tinned or frozen food.
• Make sure you have any medication you might need.
• Eating regular meals throughout the day will keep your energy levels up.
• When it’s cold, make sure you keep moving around, even if you’re just wiggling your fingers and toes.
• Look out for your neighbours. Make sure they are warm and have enough food at home.
