Local Resident Finds Employment

LUCK changed this week for an unemployed local resident living in Grove Hill.

John McAvoy from Daleville Close started work on Monday as a labourer for Dutton International, which is providing skilled labour and is partnering community regeneration specialist Frank Haslam Milan (FHM) North East on two sites on behalf of Erimus Housing.

The developments consists of new build affordable homes and bungalows including 11 two bedroom bungalows at Keithwood Close and 12 two and three bedroom houses and four two bedroom bungalows at Daleville Close in Grove Hill.

When the Wearside-based firm started on site in August this year, John provided the two site managers with information and history of the area.   As time passed, FHM’s site managers Robin Connell and Ronnie McVeigh realised that it would be good to have John on site and forwarded his details to Dutton International, the company’s partnered labour supplier.

John, a former block paver, has been unemployed since 2006 and is now relieved to have found work, especially in the lead up to Christmas.

He commented: "It’s a good feeling to be working again and I am really enjoying getting up on a morning and going to work.  Earning money, especially in the lead up to Christmas is going to be a great help to me and my family."

Chris Smith, Managing Director of Erimus Housing, said: "The people of Grove Hill have a real sense of community and we would like to thank John for his time in talking to our contractors and helping them get a good sense of life on the estate.

"The work on these new properties is just one part of a major regeneration scheme in Grove Hill and we are thrilled that his involvement has led to a job for John personally, as well as tackling wider unemployment issues in the region."

Robin Connell, FHM’s site manager for Daleville Close added: "It’s fantastic that we have been able to find work for John.  He is a well motivated man and we felt he needed a chance to get back into full time employment.  It’s great that our contractor has employed him and it’s good for the area to employ local people."
