FIVE fearful men had a hair-raising experience to boost cash for a specialist children’s charity.
The quivering quintet from Fabrick Housing Group, which has Erimus Housing and Tees Valley Housing as its members, had part of their body stripped bare when they undertook the leg waxing challenge at Centre North East, the group’s headquarters.
The anxious employees offered their limbs to raise money for the Bubble Foundation, a Newcastle-based unit that works to save the lives of babies born without immune systems.
Staff members from across the group dug deep and even paid a door entry fee for the pleasure of watching the pain!
The leg waxing was kindly carried out by Lesley Powell, the owner of The Comfort Zone salon in Hartlepool.
The five were:
Geoff Prior, Head of Asset Management
Stewart Tagg, Head of Housing
Brian Trodden, Area Housing Manager
Peter Taylor, Health and Safety Advisor
Rob Thompson, Rent and Income Manager
The fundraising drive was part of the Bubble Challenge, where companies battle against each other to raise as much money as possible for the foundation, which covers an area from Birmingham to the north of Scotland.
Other fundraising activities have included a sponsored climb, a fairground day, lunch clubs and raffles. Residents and partners have also kindly donated to the cause.
Chris Smith, Managing Director of Erimus Housing, is leading the fundraising drive and recently visited the Bubble Foundation, which is based at the Great North Children’s Hospital, part of the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
She said: “I felt privileged to be able to look around the unit, which has such a positive atmosphere and first class facilities but continually needs vital funds for not just the care of these babies and children, but also research into their conditions.
“Raising money for the foundation as part of the Bubble Challenge has really inspired employees and created a real buzz throughout Fabrick Housing Group.
“They have come up with some fantastic ideas and worked very hard and we would like to thank them all for their efforts, as well as residents and partners for their donations.”
The challenge runs until the end of January and the winner will be named at an awards night in February.
