FREE fire safety checks are being offered to residents to help them stay safe in their homes.
Cleveland Fire Brigade is urging people to make an appointment where a local firefighter will visit the house and offer advice.
The visit lasts 20-30 minutes, when the crew member will give basic fire safety information, recommend any prevention measures and help draw up an escape plan.
Smoke alarms will then be fitted to homes without the alarms while homes with smoke detectors will receive ten-year batteries for their existing alarms.
If you wish to arrange an appointment for a free fire safety check, call 01429 874063.
ERIMUS Housing is committed to tenant safety and we have a range of fire safety measures in place in our high rise blocks.
We reacted proactively following the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which demanded a new approach to the issue of fire safety, especially in high risk buildings.
We ensured we complied with the order, introducing new measures that greatly increased the safety and security of our high rise buildings.
Measures have included:
Most recently, during the £3.6m refurbishment at Welton House in Netherfieds, we used the services of specialist fire safety consultants, who provided a fire safety strategy for the block.
This work involved the development of individual personal emergency evacuation plans for vulnerable tenants. Evacuation plans are now being developed for the other blocks.
We also work in partnership with Cleveland Fire to offer free home fire safety checks to all our residents and would urge people to arrange a check to ensure their safety and the safety of their family.
