Fire Safety in High Rise Blocks

ERIMUS Housing is committed to tenant safety and we have a range of fire safety measures in place in our high rise blocks.

We reacted proactively following the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which demanded a new approach to the issue of fire safety, especially in high risk buildings.

We ensured we complied with the order, introducing new measures that greatly increased the safety and security of our high rise buildings.

Measures have included:

  • All high rise blocks have modern fully addressable and integrated fire alarm systems.
  • All blocks have comprehensive emergency light systems installed.
  • An annual fire door maintenance programme is in operation.
  • A full and comprehensive fire alarm and emergency light maintenance regime (fire alarms are tested on a quarterly basis – emergency lights are tested monthly).
  • Fire risk assessments have been carried out in all the high rise blocks, in compliance with the RRO
  • Cleveland Fire Authority has carried out audits in several blocks.

Most recently, during the £3.6m refurbishment at Welton House in Netherfieds, we used the services of specialist fire safety consultants, who provided a fire safety strategy for the block.

This work involved the development of individual personal emergency evacuation plans for vulnerable tenants. Evacuation plans are now being developed for the other blocks.

We also work in partnership with Cleveland Fire to offer free home fire safety checks to all our residents and would urge people to arrange a check to ensure their safety and the safety of their family. For a free home fire safety check, call 01429 874063.
