Focusing on Respect

RESPECT is on the agenda for the future residents of Middlesbrough.

Erimus Housing is joining with partner agencies to target youngsters in the town as the school holidays draw near.

During its annual Respect event, the landlord will work with a range of other organisations from 15th July to educate youngsters across Hemlington about appreciating their community, its residents and themselves.

Erimus Housing, Middlesbrough Council, the Street Wardens, Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade, Safe in Tees Valley and The Linx Project will all be involved delivering small workshops to the children on topics ranging from anti-social behaviour and fire to graffiti and criminal damage.

Crafty children from St Gerard’s School and Viewley Hill School will then produce a calendar focusing on the issues they have heard about.

Pupils from both schools will be mixing with the elderly to dig in and create pots of plants that will then be given to residents in the local area.

Litter picking and Nintendo Wii games are also on the menu and children will hear more about respect at a series of presentations taking place in their schools.

The project is funded and supported by the Area 4 Housing Forum held by Erimus Housing tenants.

At the end of the holiday project, the pupils will visit Coulby Newham Fire Station as a special treat to celebrate their taking part in the event.

Mike Carr, Chair of the Board for Erimus Housing, said: “Investing in our communities is one of our priorities and we especially want to work with young people, who could be our residents of the future.

“We want them to help boost our estates by teaching them about behaviour and what the consequences of their actions could be.”
